The construction of the London College of Fashion project involved both in situ and precast methodologies. From ground level to level 04, in situ concrete was used, enabling the creation of expansive colonnades and a spiral staircase. Above level 04, the structure transitioned to precast concrete, showcasing advanced off-site manufacturing capabilities. Significant engineering challenges included the intricate colonnade areas, requiring complex temporary works and digital modelling to ensure precision. Collaboration with architects facilitated high-quality finishes through detailed mock-ups and workshops. The visually striking staircase was constructed using innovative design and safety solutions, such as a two-stage pour sequence. Utilising digital technologies and off-site manufacturing, the project achieved BREAAM Outstanding sustainability targets while ensuring exceptional finishes.
