As construction partner to the main contractor, Expanded is delivering two work packages: WP8 – the 850m-long reinforced concrete box, and WP17 – eight overground platforms where the Elizabeth Line connects with the Great Western Main Line and the main building.
WP8 is the construction of the vast station box including the 6 platforms where the high-speed rail will connect. The box is 15m deep, 60m wide and 850m long. The structure is being built top down with prop beams spanning between the north and south diaphragm walls.
WP17 is made up of two structures - the 8 overground platforms where the Elizabeth line and the Great Western Mainline will connect plus the main building from which the station will be operated including a deep basement and a two-storey concrete frame.
